Trautman Associates recipient of 2009 Preservation Buffalo Niagara Award  --

BUFFALO, NY: Trautman Associates, a Buffalo architectural and engineering firm, has been honored by Preservation Buffalo Niagara for its "exemplary historic preservation efforts" in the rehabilitation of the Felician Sisters of St. Francis 136,000 SF Provincial House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located on Doat Street on the Buffalo/Cheektowaga border. The Trautman Associates’ project was one of only eight selected by the Preservation Buffalo Niagara from the surrounding seven-county region to receive an award.

"The awards are an opportunity to showcase individuals, corporations, and civic projects that have persevered in a very challenging economic environment to deliver high-quality projects and programs to restore, revitalize and sustain unique historical assets in the region," said Catherine Schweitzer, Preservation Buffalo Niagara chair.

Notable design features incorporated the Felician Sisters’ desire to focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship by including an underground geothermal well field that powers the building’s HVAC system by transferring the energy from water and soils deep underground to heat and cool the building, virtually eliminating the building’s need for fossil fuel energies.

Richard J. Stievater, AIA, Principal-in-Charge for the Felician project, accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
